Important Update: New Resume Guidance for USAJOBS Attention all applicants!
Federal agencies are implementing a more streamlined and efficient hiring process. Starting September 30, 2025, a new resume submission format will be required for all positions on USAJOBS. This change will require a new approach to your application materials, focusing on concise, targeted, and impactful resumes. What you need to know: Brevity is Key: Resumes will now have a two-page limit. This means every word counts! Targeted Content: Your resume must be tailored to each specific job announcement. Simply uploading a generic resume may not be enough to showcase your qualifications. Focus on Impact: Instead of listing every duty, highlight your measurable accomplishments. Use strong action verbs and specific data to demonstrate your successes (e.g., "Led a team of five analysts to improve efficiency by 30%"). Plain Language: Avoid jargon and military-specific acronyms. Make it easy for hiring managers to understand your experience and its relevance to the position. What to do now: Review and condense your current resume to meet the new two-page standard. If your resume is saved in the Agency Talent Portal (ATP), you must update it to reflect these changes for future applications. Start practicing how to showcase your most relevant and impactful skills in a concise way.
